Barner was selected in the sixth round of the NFL Draft in 2013 by the Panthers when both Bills head coach Sean McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane were with the organization.  The Oregon product played mostly special teams his rookie year carrying the ball six times for seven yards.  He also had a pair of receptions for seven yards.

The Lynwood, California native was traded to the Eagles just before the 2014 season, but was released a couple weeks later. He signed with the Eagles practice squad later that season never making the active roster.  Barner made the Eagles roster the following season, playing 24 games for the Eagles in 2015 and 2016 before signing with the Los Angeles Chargers prior to 2017.

After being released by LA, Barner returned to Philadelphia last year, playing 13 regular season and three playoff games for the Super Bowl Champions, including Super Bowl LII, where he had three kickoff returns for 73 yards.

For his career, the 29-year old Barner has run for 317 yards and three touchdowns and caught 27 passes for 127 yards.  He’s also returned 30 punts for 259 yards and 22 kickoffs for 498 yards.

The Bills are currently carrying six running backs on their roster as they head to rookie minicamp this week and OTAs soon after.  LeSean McCoy is the unquestioned starter with Chris Ivory, Marcus Murphy, Travaris Cadet, Taiwan Jones, and Aaron Green behind him.
